If you can’t find anything good, weird, horrific, and bizarre to watch.. you aren’t looking! Here’s what I’ve been binging when I wasn’t reading: The Outsider and You.
The Outsider (HBO)

If you couldn’t tell, I’m into “The Outsider”, the mind-bending new true crime mystery on HBO. Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, which I have not read, it’s spooky, weird, bizarre, confounding, stressful… and I love it. I have no idea what’s going to happen: time travel? Alternate universes? Doppelgangers? Elaborate conspiracy? Or something even more supernatural? Who knows!
It’s also super dark. Pure black. It’s most reminiscent of “True Detective”, if anything, but it leans way harder into horror. Honestly, I haven’t seen much like it, and I enjoy that it’s different and unpredictable. HBO is releasing the episodes weekly – painful! – but I’m not sure I could binge the whole thing without losing my mind.
You, season 2 (Netflix)

Did you get into “You” season 1? It’s creepy, unnerving, and Dan from “Gossip Girl” (aka Penn Badgley) is scary good at being scary. This show will make you wonder if someone is across the street, just out of view, watching you through the window. I loved the ending to season 1 and even though I think it could have been a perfect story by itself, I’m willing to give the writers a chance with season 2.
This show is also based on a book that I haven’t read. Usually, I’m all about reading the book before watching the movie or show. But I’m really enjoying not knowing what’s going to happen!
What do you think: have you watched these? Read the books? What are you binging this January?
(And, of course, I did not forget about the latest season of “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”! That just needs its own post.)
I absolutely LOVED The Outsider novel (you need to read it ASAP!) and I think HBO had done a fantastic adaptation.
